James (Jim) R. Ebeling, 80 of Decatur, Michigan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Borgess Hospital on August 8, 2017 from complications of lung cancer.
He was born December 22, 1936 in Chicago, the adopted son of Lawrence and Devota Ebeling. Jim married Dolores Pinta on August 11, 1956. Jim and Dolores raised five children; Deborah (David) Moormann of Lawton, Michigan, Doreen (Bob) Hendricks of Ranchester, Wyoming, Donna (Fred) Reeder of Lawrence, Michigan, Dina (Jon) Hestera of Allegan, Michigan, James (Kelli) of Decatur, Michigan. Nine grandchildren; Sarah (Eric) McDemus of Scituate, Massachusetts, Alexandra (Aaron) Wichman of Sheridan, Wyoming, Jennifer Hendricks of Lake Tahoe, California, George Reeder of Lawrence, Michigan, AJ and Anna Hestera of Allegan, Michigan, Kailyn and Peyton Ebeling of Decatur, Michigan. Three great-grandchildren; Olive McDemus, Colton and Nolan Wichman. Also surviving is his brother Gary Ebeling of Orland Park, Illinois.
Jim was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #73 in Chicago and worked at Chicago State Hospital for 18 years. Jim and Dee moved to Decatur, Michigan from Burbank, Illinois in 1970. Jim was a General Contractor and owner of Towne & Country Builders in Decatur for over 25 years. Jim retied from Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #7 in Kalamazoo in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Devota Ebeling and beloved grandson, James Ross Reeder.
Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Jim’s life at a casual memorial party at the Decatur VFW Hall, 560 N. Phelps Decatur, Michigan on Friday, August 18th at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VFW Post 6248 Decatur, Michigan. Arrangements are being handled by Newell Chapel of Decatur.
