Mavis Popp, 88, of Decatur, MI. passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Vicinia Gardens in Otsego, MI.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Newell Funeral Chapel, 83313 M51, Decatur with Pastor James Abshagen officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur. Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the funeral home. Mavis was born September 7, 1930 in Paw Paw, MI to Jay & Ruth (Miller) Dodge. She graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1948. She then attended Western Michigan University where she received her Bachelor’s in education. On August 16, 1952 she married Frank Popp in Paw Paw, MI. Mavis taught for a short time at Diamondale High School and continued her teaching career at Decatur High School teaching English and History. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur where she was involved in many activities. She was also a member of the Decatur Study Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed square dancing, keeping up with history and current events, baking, especially her famous chocolate oil cake, blonde brownies and numerous pies. Mavis took pride in maintaining her home and keeping her lawn leaf free!
Mavis is survived by her husband Frank Popp; son Larry Popp (Nancy Weiss); daughter Cheryl (Brian) Germain; grandchildren Alexander (Courtney) Popp, Leanna Popp (Nathan Smith), Derrick Popp, Maria Germain, and Megan Germain; sister-in-law Joanne Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents and brother Marston Dodge.
